Abstract

The (unequal) power relations between media and politics, which runs through the history of journalism, represents one of the major concerns and weaknesses of nowadays democratic societies. Face a serious internal crisis and loss of public authority, journalism contests the media sphere with other actors who do not hesitate to point out the media as an adversary to shoot down, as the populist politicians do. They prefer the desintermediation of information and avoid the journalistic scrutiny. Paradoxically, increased communication is far from producing better information and contributing to a climate of greater transparency. Suported in reference bibliography we discuss the dilemmas of journalism in the era of political-media populism, concluding that the erosion of democracy is linked to the crisis of the media and that only the strengthening of the media can solve both fields crisis.
